COVID-19 Changes & Updates

· What is DEI, and why is it important?
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are principles that organizations adopt (1) to ensure that there is a plan to onboard (and retain) employees of various genders, racial, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities and (2) to put systems and resources in place that promote emotional safety and allow all employees to feel valued and heard.
Organizations that prioritize creating a DEI model that is far-reaching and impacting change lean into an ethic of intersectional equity. An intersectional equity ethic is a set of principles that acknowledges that multiple systems of disadvantage impact some people. With this ethic, organizations use equity as the lens to make decisions that help shape practices that (re) design structures, tools, and competencies that consider and mitigate pre-existing inequality.
At Urban Fireworks, we encourage an intersectional equity ethic as the foundational understanding of any DEI projects and goals. Embedding intersectional equity enhances organizational growth, engagement, productivity, and innovation among teams and is simply the right thing to do!
